Green and Living Roofs and Walls not only enhance visually unappealing spaces but also provide environmental benefits. In response to the urgent climate challenges, many developers and landscape architects are seeking ways to address issues like air quality, biodiversity, urban cooling, noise pollution, and community health. With substantial research and evidence, the significant positive impact of these green spaces on the environment and lifestyle is gaining widespread recognition. Kingston Landscape Group has noticed an increasing demand for such green areas in commercial and residential settings. Through collaboration with suppliers and developers, we have successfully implemented several green roofs and walls, including a recent green wall installation at our new Headquarters in Egham, Surrey.
Below are a couple of examples of roof top green spaces that have been installed by Kingston Landscape Group.
Dickens Yard
Collaborating closely with St. George and the architect resulted in the development of a high-quality urban space. The use of ZinCo systems involves a single sedum blanket green roof and an array of intensive green roof gardens. Given that many of the roof gardens are located above underground parking areas, effective drainage and stormwater management were vital aspects of the green roof system. Balconies and podiums are adorned with a variety of vegetation, including trees, shrubs, and perennial plants, forming lush hedges. Furthermore, the roof gardens provide additional features such as benches and a pagoda, creating comfortable seating areas and shaded spots for the residents.
Turing House
In 2022, Kingston Landscape Group was chosen as the landscaping contractor by Bowmer & Kirkland for a new school project in South West London. Collaborating closely with Wallbarn, we utilised their M-Tray® wildflower green roof system, consisting of specially designed modular trays, to install a green roof spanning over 1,500m2. The use of this modular wildflower system enabled us to create a thriving green roof, providing future students with an educational green space. The delivery of the M-Tray® wildflowers was highly efficient, thanks to the stackable nature of the modular products, allowing for easy offloading by our team. The installation process was smooth and simple, employing a large cherry picker to lift the pallets onto the roof and position them using a trolley. This efficient process ensured that we completed the project on time and within budget.
